Jewish Cuba

This presentation will present a panoramic view of the whole Jewish presence in Cuba since the first group of Jews who arrived to Cuba until today. It will emphasize the different historical periods of the Cuban Jewish Community, the presence of Jews in different cities of the country, the most important Jewish places and the most important Jewish personalities.

Abel Hernández Eskenazi was born in Havana, Cuba, on November 24, 2000. He graduated in Telecommunications and Electronics Engineering at the Technological University of Havana “CUJAE”, in July 2023, with an award for his scientific activity as a student. He is the author of two articles in scientific journals related to electronics and participated as a speaker in two international scientific events. He obtained the “Relevant” award at the Cuban History Forum, at the university, with the work “Impact of Jewish Personalities in the History of Cuba”. He is an active member of the Jewish Community of Cuba where he carries out different activities. He is part of the study group of the religious services, of the leadership group of the Youth Organization, and is one of the leaders of an Israeli folkloric dance group called “Emunah”. He has attended the Maccabi World Games in Israel, competing in the sport Karate and winning gold medal in 2017 and bronze medal in 2013 and 2022. Abel also has a part-time job offering a tour of Havana’s Jewish sites to visitors from different countries.
